Coaches Corner is where we find out what makes our favorite coaches tick, what drives them, and the crazy things they go through.

Coach D (Head Coach 9U Team)

Q1.How long have you been coaching? About 23 years

Q2.Describe your Coaching Style in 3 words or less? Passionate.

Q3.What made you get into youth sports, and what keeps you coming back? The birth of my first son is what made me change my life and start coaching football, and the kids are what keep me coming back every year.

Q4.What is the craziest game you have been a part of? 2011 (12-14) S.S.P. vs CCJ Vikings. The 1st play from scrimmage CCJ player got the ball and got absolutely tattooed by one of my players. I mean it knocked the kid’s hip pads out of his pants. On the 2nd play from scrimmage, their coach walked out on the field and waving that very same hip pad, and said it represented the white flag of surrender.

Q5. Funniest story ? When I first started the panthers, I didn’t budget properly for uniforms, so we had to make our own. We had the short jerseys, that kind of look like halter tops and we had the iron on numbers from JoAnn Fabrics. The kids were so excited that they were getting new uniforms; until they saw them. We did win the league that year, so it all evened out.

"Coach walked out on the field and waving that very same hip pad, and said it represented the white flag of surrender"

Q6.What advice do you give new coaches? I tell them to find out what your really in it for first. A lot of coaches get into this for the wrong reasons.

Q7.What do you do the night before a game? I run plays with my players ID cards. It makes sure my rotations are good, and helps me visualize my game plan.
